Arlington County Department of Environmental Services (DES) is seeking a Pretreatment Program Coordinator to join our team at the Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP). The WPCP operates and maintains the County's wastewater treatment infrastructure, ensuring compliance with all federal and state environmental regulations. The position will be responsible for coordinating the federally-mandated Industrial Pretreatment Program, serving as the WPCP's liaison with the EPA, managing environmental compliance programs, and leading special studies supporting plant operations. This position reports to the Laboratory Manager.
Major Job Duties:
Serves as WPCP liaison with EPA, including preparing program reports to the EPA, the State, and County agencies and tracking regulatory issues with WPCP applications;
The ideal candidate will have experience coordinating industrial pretreatment or environmental regulatory compliance programs in a municipal or wastewater utility setting and interpreting and applying federal and state environmental regulations, including engaging with regulatory agencies such as EPA or DEQ.
Minimum Qualifications:
Substitution: Directly related experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Desirable Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
Proficiency with data management tools and systems used for environmental monitoring, billing, and regulatory reporting; and/or;

Additional Information
Work Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday; work hours to be determined at time of hire, with flexibility and telework options pending supervisor approval.
Work Schedule: This position is classified as essential. On occasion, the selected candidate must be available for callback and may be required to work during evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergencies. This is not a full-time remote opportunity.
Working Conditions: This position may involve field work including exposure to industrial discharge sites, sampling locations, and laboratory environments, in addition to typical office work.
