Job Description

Under the direction of the Board of Directors of St. Elizabeth College of Nursing and in collaboration with the administration of Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS), Inc., the President serves as the chief executive and academic officer of the College. The President provides visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight to ensure excellence in nursing education and full compliance with all accrediting and regulatory agencies. The President advances the College’s mission, strengthens academic quality, promotes innovation, ensures fiscal integrity, and fosters collaborative relationships within MVHS and the broader community.

Core Job Responsibilities

Institutional Leadership & Governance

  • Execute the planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating of all academic and operational functions of the College in alignment with MVHS governance and operational standards, as the parent institution.
  • Provide visionary leadership to advance the mission, vision, philosophy, and strategic goals of the College in alignment with MVHS and the Franciscan values upon which the institution was founded.
  • Recommend and implement major policy and program initiatives in collaboration with the College Board of Directors.

Strategic Planning & Institutional Effectiveness

  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the College’s Strategic Plan, ensuring continuous quality improvement, accountability, and achievement of student learning and program outcomes.
  • Provide leadership in institutional effectiveness efforts to support data-informed decision-making and measurable program success.
  • Oversee enrollment management strategies, program growth initiatives, and academic innovation to respond to workforce and community needs.

Academic Leadership and Program Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with all State Education Department regulations and accrediting body standards; serves as primary liaison to regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Ensure the integrity, rigor, and continuous evaluation of the nursing curriculum in collaboration with the Dean of Academic Affairs and faculty.
  • Collaborate with faculty to ensure graduating students meet College objectives and are prepared to satisfy state licensure and professional practice requirements.
  • Promote a culture of academic excellence, collegiality, diversity, equity, inclusion, and mutual respect among students, faculty, and staff.

Fiscal & Operational Management

  • Collaborate with the Finance Committee of the College Board and operates under the guidance of the MVHS
  • Finance Department to develop, manage and maintain a balanced budget, exercising fiscal stewardship and accountability for all College resources.
  • Lead fundraising initiatives, grant development, and external resource acquisition to support scholarships, program innovation, and capital improvements.


Faculty Human Resource Leadership

  • Provide leadership in faculty recruitment, development, evaluation, and retention to ensure highly qualified academic personnel and compliance with credentialing standards.
  • Selects, appoints, supervises, and annually evaluates academic and administrative leadership personnel of the College.
  • Ensure that human resource decisions, including staffing levels, disciplinary actions, termination, probationary recommendations, and faculty/staff development, align with the goals of the nursing program and the mission of the Mohawk Valley Health System. Plans, coordinates and chairs the Faculty Organization and participates in all standing committees and ad hoc committees as necessary.

External Partnerships & Community Engagement

  • Establish and maintain collaborative and contractual partnerships with affiliating clinical agencies, educational institutions, community organizations and healthcare stakeholders to support curriculum and workforce development.
  • Develop strategic networks and partnerships to enhance the College’s academic standing and nursing’s influence within the healthcare and higher education communities.
  • Provide leadership on issues affecting nursing education and the delivery of healthcare within the community and region.
  • Perform related duties as directed.

Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution
  • 10 years of progressive nursing leadership experience, including nursing practice, supervision, academic teaching and administrative oversight in nursing education

PREFERRED:

  • Earned Doctorate (PhD, DNP, EdD or related field) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience as a senior-level nursing education administrator (Dean, President, or equivalent). Experience with accreditation processes and regulatory compliance oversight.
  • Demonstrated record of strategic planning, fiscal management, and organizational leadership.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Current licensure as a registered professional nurse in New York State.

The Wynn Hospital will strengthen and grow full service cardiac offerings, support the development of a Neurosciences Institute that will include a Neurovascular Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center, will be a world class diagnostic center, including Interventional Radiology and Advanced Endoscopy and provides a Level III Trauma Center plus the ability to serve 90,000 emergency visits per year.
