Job Description

Physical demands of the job require that an assistant is mobile in order to work with students on the floor, in the Big Playroom, on the playground, and able to lift a minimum of 20 pounds. Work environment is the classroom and other areas inside and outside of the entire school.

Reports to: Direct Supervision from Principal

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Welcomes and greets all children and families.
  2. Builds relationships with their children and their families.
  3. Displays friendly and professional manners and personality.
  4. Communicate with families regularly. Maintain a communication log.
  5. Maintains family and staff confidentiality in alignment with MSDLT and State laws and regulations.
  6. Maintain a safe and developmentally appropriate environment for children to explore, learn and grow.
  7. Supervise children in an out of the classroom.
  8. Always consider what is in each child's best interest.
  9. Interact with children.
  10. Listen to children's interest.
  11. Assisting children with toileting needs, including changing diapers.
  12. Follow and know all licensing standards.
  13. Follow and know all emergency procedures.
  14. Supervise classroom Instructional Assistant.
  15. Communicate classroom happenings to Principal.
  16. Collaborate with peers.
  17. Collaborate with Special Education Team to meet the goals of children with special needs and IEPs in place.
  18. Attend meetings and assist on committees as required.
  19. Maintain ratios at all times.
  20. Maintain a calm, organized, stress free classroom environment.
  21. Create a daily schedule and follow it consistently, children feel more secure when a routine is in place.
  22. Planning and guiding project work.
  23. Documenting project work.
  24. Recording data, photographic, anecdotal and work samples to assess children's progress and needs.
  25. Replenish toys and materials to keep the classroom environment fresh and interesting.
  26. Provide COR Assessment reports to families three times a school year.
  27. Ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with co-workers, families, children and visitors; cultural sensitivity and ability to relate well and effectively in a diverse workplace and with a diverse population.

  7. Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness and monitors work to ensure quality.
  8. Responds to direction, follows instructions and completes work or task assigned by Principal in a timely manner.
  9. Takes personal responsibility for own actions keeping commitments and asking for and offering help when needed.
  10. Observes safety and security procedures and reports any potentially unsafe conditions to Principal.
  11. Is consistently at work and on time and ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent.
  12. Professional conduct at all times � dress code, language, cell phone us etc.
  13. Position Characteristics: A positive disposition and flexibility are vital. Work tasks are determined by the Preschool Instructor and/or the Principal. Work will vary day-day but always involves direct supervision and interaction with the children.
