We are currently looking for Prep Cook to join our team of committed professionals.This full-time contract position within the Association is based at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s John Island Camp, located near Spanish, ON.
Reporting to the Kitchen Manager, the Prep Cook is responsible for supporting daily food preparation and meal service, ensuring compliance with health, food safety, and cleanliness standards. This role also includes maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment and being responsible for dishwashing and sanitation to support smooth kitchen operations.
START DATE: June 27, 2026
LOCATION: YMCA John Island Camp
RATE OF PAY: $17.60-$18.50 / Hourly
Major Responsibilities
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen and work areas in accordance with health and safety standards
• Assist with food preparation and meal service to support daily camp operations
• Complete daily cleaning and dishwashing duties to ensure a sanitary kitchen environment
• Adhere to YMCA and John Island Camp policies, procedures, and guidelines
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Association
Qualifications
• Possesion of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) considered an asset
• Possesion of Safe Food Handler Certificate considered an asset
• WHMIS certification considered an asset
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated customer service skills
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification required
• Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening

CAMP EQUITABLE EMPLOYMENT FUND
The Camp Equitable Employment Fund (CEEF) is a grant created to reduce barriers to camp employment for individuals who have been historically marginalized and underrepresented in the camping industry.
The fund is open to Canadians, ages 18 to 25, who are a part of a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) communities. Ideal candidates will have previous experience, or a demonstrated interest, in working with youth. Camp-specific experience is not required.
Successful applicants will receive financial assistance to offset the personal expenses of working in the outdoor industry. This could include: certification courses, personal gear, equipment and travel costs.
