
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We direct and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.
Premises Maintenance Officer position is in charge of Premises Projects ensuring proper maintenance of ICRC premises and equipment and follows up on key projects conducted by the premises team within Aden AoR ( Al- Dhaleh- Turbah – Mokha – Marib )
Premises Projects
• Draws up documents (drawings, Bills of Quantities, contracts, etc.) for engineering projects using approved formats; monitors project implementation for compliance with project documents, ICRC standards, and local building codes/standards, ensuring corrective action is taken where necessary.
• Supervises small numbers of contractors working on project sites and conducts basic quality checks and reports defects to Premises Manager.
• Submitting requests through the premises database and following up on their approval.
• Maintaining the passive security infrastructure of the places in a good condition and conducting continuous assessment and maintenance of it, including strong doors, strong windows, emergency stairs, and so on.
• Providing Premises support for premises in the ICRC Structures covered by the Aden Mission including Dhalea, Mokha, Turbah.
• Creates project files in electronic databases (Team Space) and keeps them up to date.
• Prepares implementation/progress reports.
• Provides regular updates to supervisor on security, stakeholder issues and site progress.
• Manages project purchasing on labour and materials according to the delegation's financial rules.
• Administers hand-over of ICRC-provided infrastructure to end-users.
Plumbing Works:
• Installing water, gas, and drainage systems, as well as appliances like water pumps, water heaters, sinks, and toilets.
• Performing preventative maintenance on plumbing systems to avoid emergencies.
• Diagnosing, repairing, or replacing broken pipes, valves, and clogged drains.
• Project management: being able to undertake and monitor plumbing installation projects
• Technical Interpretation: reading and interpreting blueprints and building plans.
• Measuring, cutting, threading, and bending pipes
• Maintenance and repairs the water supply system of ICRC premises.
• Weekly checkup of the water supply systems and make the necessary repairs.
• Maintenance and repairs of water filter devices.
• Maintenance, repairs and installation of water pumps system.
• Maintenance, repairs and installation of solar and electric water heaters.
• Understanding of water distribution, drainage systems, and materials (copper, PEX, PVC).
• Strong ability to diagnose faults and repair systems.
• Ability to lift heavy materials, work in confined spaces, and use heavy tools.
Maintenance and repairs:
• Maintenance and repairs of the power systems in ICRC buildings (short circuits, fuses, lamps, cables, etc.) as well as some electrical devices.
• Delivers basic technical support.in areas such as electricity, plumbing, carpentry etc. under supervision.
• Warns immediately the hierarchy of any issues that could have negative consequences or represent a risk (technical malfunctions, accidents).
• Maintenance and repairs of equipment independently.
• Maintains and performs minor repairs to water supply system of ICRC premises.
• Maintenance and repairs of air conditioner units.
• Performing periodic preventive maintenance for building systems (for example, fire alarm systems, power systems, batteries, water feeding systems ... etc).
• Helps in maintains and performs minor construction works.
• Regular and periodic inspection of lighting, equipment, appliances, doors, windows, structure buildings ... etc. in premises.
Administrative Work:
• Sharing premises needs and reporting to his supervisor.
• Establishes inventories on request.
• Some loading works and moving of furniture within ICRC Premises.
• Some minor installation works.
