The Pre-Teen Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation and ongoing evaluation of quality and developmentally appropriate programs, activities, services, and special events for youth between the ages of 10 – 14. Additionally, the individual in this role will have the responsibility for oversight of program staff, department budget, and a dedicated program space (Pre-Teen Center).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Pre-Teen Programming, Collaboration & Partnership Development

  • In collaboration with pre-teen department staff, provide a variety of programming options reflective of the BGCB Program, ensuring that youth can participate in activities representative of all BGCB core program areas: arts, education, leadership and life skills, sports, fitness and recreation, and technology. Programming may take the form of daily activities, projects, multi-week programs, and clubs.
  • Develop and implement collaborative programs and events with staff from other clubhouse departments as well as staff from other BGCB clubhouses and community organizations as appropriate.
  • Delivery of BGCB core programs, activities, and workforce readiness opportunities, including BGCB’s Ready to Work Academy for middle schoolers, Young Leaders, and Torch Club.
  • Delivery of targeted specialty programs such as Stand Strong (in partnership with Boston Sports Museum) and Passport to Manhood (BGCA).
  • Run/implement Club 13, Yawkey Club of Roxbury’s tween to teen transition program.
  • Secure, maintain and monitor budget, materials, equipment, and other resources belonging to the program area.
  • Coordinate program partners and consultants who can offer related instruction, support, and guidance to members.

Standards, Assessment, and Evaluation

  • Manage and oversee BGCB pre-teen program activity standards as determined each year.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends in pre-teen education.
  • Participate in various evaluation efforts throughout each program year, including the annual member survey.

Members Discipline and Support

  • Supervise and discipline club members participating in programs and services within the program area as well as throughout the clubhouse (as appropriate).
  • Prioritize positive behavior management, social-emotional development and incorporating a DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) lens in discipline and support.
  • Maintain a clean and safe Pre-Teen program area.

Management, Communication and Training

  • Orient, train and supervise pre-teen department staff.
  • Provide annual performance evaluations for applicable staff in a timely manner.
  • Participate in on – going professional development (trainings, education team meetings, 1 to 1 coaching sessions, observations, and supervision).
  • Maintain a high level of professional communication both internally and externally
  • Travel between sites and to activities as needed.
  • Other related duties (as specified by Club Leadership)

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3-5 years direct experience developing and delivering programs for youth.
  • Knowledge of youth development principles and trends in pre-teen programming and activities.
  • Demonstrated experience providing recreation programs for youth.
  • Must be or become CPR / FA certified.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work clubhouse hours especially as seasons and service needs change.

Preferred

  • Experience in out-of-school time settings
  • Valid Massachusetts driver's license (strongly preferred)

  • A minimum of 1-2 years supervisory experience
  • Multilingual ability (especially English, Spanish and Haitian Creole)

SALARY & BENEFITS

Salary - $‎60,114.60/year-$70,798.00/year - commensurate with experience; along with competitive benefits and a great work environment
