Job Description

TITLE: Pre-K Educational Technician III - Amanda C. Rowe Elementary

Portland Public Schools seeks an Educational Technician III for a Pre-K classroom at Amanda C. Rowe Elementary. A successful candidate will demonstrate experience with and knowledge of early childhood curriculum, developmentally appropriate practice, and classroom management. They will support the classroom teacher in building student school readiness by helping to create a positive, developmentally appropriate learning environment. Working knowledge of the Maine Early Learning Development Standards, Pre-K for ME curricula, and Teaching Strategies Gold is preferred.

A successful candidate will have a passion for working with young children, bring an equity-oriented approach to their instruction, and will hold all students to high expectations, recognizing that some may need more support to meet those expectations. The ideal candidate will have experience working with families experiencing poverty, and with students and families for whom English is a second or third language, and/or interest in working in a classroom that includes students with identified special needs. We seek a teammate who is a positive, collaborative, and effective communicator, and will contribute actively to both the classroom and the larger PPS community. The Pre-K Educational Technician will take direction from the Pre-K teacher and report to their building administrators and the Director of Pre-K Programs at PPS.


The Educational Technician will attend both building-wide and Pre-K team staff meetings and professional development opportunities as appropriate and as required.


Note: All Public Pre-K programs in Maine adhere to Maine Chapter 124 as their guidance document.

CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maine State fingerprint (CHRC) authorization (more info)
  • [Strongly preferred] Maine State Educational Technician III (023) authorization (more info)
  • [Required] Maine State Educational Technician II (022) authorization and obtaining Level 4 status on the Maine Roads to Quality Registry within 3 years


EMPLOYMENT DETAILS:

  • Calendar: School Year, Full Time, 1.0 FTE
  • Assignment: Permanent
  • Contract: Covered under the Ed Tech contract (see 2024-2027 CBA here)
  • Wages: Pay rate determined based on education and experience, as outlined in CBA

Our incredible staff and students make Rowe a truly special place to learn and grow. Housed in a beautiful, modern facility built in 2018, we provide a welcoming and inclusive environment where every child is supported on their educational journey.
