
The primary role of the Pre-Employment Specialist (PES) is to support individuals with developmental disabilities (I/DD) as they develop the skills necessary for competitive employment. PES will deliver services by utilizing volunteer opportunities to mimic competitive job tasks throughout the Mercy healthcare system. PES will assess the individual needs of the program participants, develop goals, and progressively track outcomes in accordance with the guidelines set by the Productive Living Board.The PES will perform responsibilities in a manner consistent with Mercys Mission, Service Standards, and Core Values.
Education: High School Diploma with additional training in Special Education or related field
Experience: A minimum of 2 years' experience working with persons developmental disabilities.
Other: Good oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required. Displays professional and courteous interactions with patients, co-workers, and other hospital personnel. Prioritizes appropriately and utilizes good judgement with use of time. Accepts delegations of tasks. Negotiates and interacts effectively with service providers, the Productive Living Board, and other outside resources. Good problem-solving skills required. Able to work independent and manage time effectively.
Preferred Education: Bachelors in special education or related field preferred
Preferred Experience: Previous experience in healthcare/Experience in a Special Education classroom with students 17-21 years of age and/or supporting people with development disabilities in community and work environments
