Job Description

Position Summary
The Welder is responsible for performing production welding on reinforcing steel and related fabricated products using MIG welding equipment. The Welder will read and interpret production tags, work orders, shop drawings, and weld specifications to accurately position, fit, and weld rebar and steel components according to customer and project requirements. The role requires the ability to work with various sizes and grades of reinforcing steel, maintain accurate weld placement and quality, and inspect completed work to ensure it meets company and customer specifications. The Welder is also responsible for operating welding equipment and other production tools safely, following all applicable safety procedures, and maintaining a clean and organized work area.
Position Functions
Equipment Operation & Production
• Assemble rebar structures as per customers’ drawings, prints and specifications, using MIG welding equipment

• Read and interpret Blueprints, work orders, shop drawings, and schedules to verify welding requirements, rebar sizes, lengths, shapes, quantities, and specifications.

• Measure and inspect welded rebar assemblies using tape measures, calipers, and other measuring tools to ensure welds and finished products meet engineering, customer, and quality specifications.

• Communicates with management, production control, quality and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve assembly or quality issues.
• May perform other duties as assigned by management.
Material Handling & Crane Operation
• Safely operate overhead cranes and mechanical lifting equipment (upon certification) to maneuver raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods throughout the facility.
• Apply proper lifting techniques and approved material handling procedures to maneuver heavy materials.

Safety, Quality & Housekeeping
• Perform work in compliance with company safety policies, standard operating procedures, and Occupational Health and Safety Act standards (Section 28 responsibilities).
• Wear required PPE (steel-toed boots, hard hat, cut-resistant gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection) at all times and verify machine guards are operational.
• Monitor equipment performance, perform basic preventive maintenance, and report product defects, hazards, or equipment issues immediately.
• Maintain a clean, hazard-free workspace.
• Maintain accurate production records, machine logs, and completed order tags and other documentation as required.
Working Conditions
• Environment: Non-climate-controlled manufacturing plant and outdoor yard; subject to seasonal temperature changes, dust, dirt, noise, vibration, and heavy steel products.
• Schedule: Shift work and overtime as dictated by operational demand.
Physical Requirements
• Physical Demands: Standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching for 8 hr frequent repetitive hand/arm movements; safe lifting and maneuvering up to 50 lbs (23 kg) repeatedly, utilizing team lifts or mechanical aids for heavier loads.

Preferred Qualifications
• Formal MIG Welding Training Certificate is required
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Knowledge of welding safety and OSHA requirements
• 1–3 years of experience in manufacturing, construction, or heavy industrial environments.
• Prior experience operating or processing machinery, overhead cranes, or forklifts.
• Experience working with steel or other heavy materials is considered an asset.
• Ability to read and write in English
• Ability to understand and follow quality specifications.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
