Job Description

Faculty Search: Addiction Policy

The Department of Health Policy and Management (HPM) of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is searching for an exceptional individual with significant practical experience in addiction policy to join our faculty. This is a unique opportunity for someone who has made change happen at a local, state, or national level to join with researchers, other practitioners, students, and staff to address the crisis of addiction and overdose in the United States.

The role has two primary components.

Part 1: The Bloomberg Overdose Prevention Initiative. Approximately half of the selected faculty member’s time will be dedicated to this project, which aims to reduce overdose in selected states and, through informing policy, the entire nation. Multiple faculty members, staff, and students at the School are engaged in research, technical assistance and other activities, in coordination with teams at Pew Charitable Trusts, the CDC Foundation, and Vital Strategies. The selected faculty member will contribute to key elements of this work and serve as a resource to partner organizations.

Part 2: The Bloomberg American Health Initiative. The faculty member will also be supported by endowment funding from this Initiative, now in its 10th year. The faculty member will teach in the Department of Health Policy and Management, advise students, participate in other Initiative activities including the annual Bloomberg American Health Summit, and pursue their own projects in the area of addiction and overdose. For more about the Bloomberg American Health Initiative, visit http://americanhealth.jhu.edu.

The Department of Health Policy and Management is a premier, policy-centered academic department with faculty, students, and staff committed to solving the most entrenched public health challenges in the world through evidence-based policy change. Consistently ranked #1 by U.S. News & World Report, HPM combines rigorous multidisciplinary research with comprehensive educational programs to prepare the next generation of healthcare leaders, policy analysts, and administrators. The selected faculty member will be an active member of the Department, able to engage with faculty, students, and staff, as well as Centers, such as the Center for Mental Health and Addiction Policy.

The selected faculty member will join the non-tenure track faculty at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health faculty at the rank of Practice Professor or Associate Practice Professor. For an appropriate candidate, an appointment to Distinguished Professor of the Practice may be considered.

We are looking for a faculty member with:

· A vision for engaging students and organizations in the Initiative’s network to advance national progress on addiction and overdose.

· A commitment to being present regularly at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and part of the school’s community
