About the role
Joining BHP’s Resource Centre of Excellence (RCoE), in the newly created role of Practice Lead Global Mining Engineering, you’ll be recognised as a subject matter expert providing thought leadership and technical mastery across mine optimisation, planning, and the wider supply chain.
Drawing on your deep technical and operational experience across open cut or underground operations in multiple commodities, you will play a critical role in shaping high-quality decision making for mine progression across all time horizons—from long-term strategy through to short-term execution. This is a unique opportunity to influence global asset performance, applying your expertise to optimise outcomes, drive value, and support sustainable mine planning at scale.

In this role, you can be based in Denver, USA; Santiago, Chile; Toronto, Canada, or in Perth, Adelaide or Brisbane in Australia. You will also be required to undertake frequent international travel.
About you
You are an accomplished senior mining engineer with technical expertise across multiple commodities, mining methods (preferably block caving or underground) mining engineering principles, techniques, and technologies, including mine design, mineral processing, and supply chain optimisation. Your strong understanding of mining regulations and standards ensures all activities are delivered safely and compliance with local, national, and international requirements. You have a proven track record of combining technical excellence, operational experience and strong commercial acumen across the full life cycle of mining.
A respected leader, you build and mentor high-performing teams, fostering a collaborative environment that supports both performance and professional growth. You engage confidently with a range of stakeholders, using your strong communication and negotiation skills to align expectations and navigate complexity. Known for your innovative mindset, you consistently deliver practical solutions to complex mining challenges while advancing sustainability initiatives that create long-term environmental and social value.
A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering (or equivalent) is mandatory.
