This role will be based in our New York City office, on an in-office basis.
The Practice Group Assistant will work closely with attorneys and staff in connection with matters relating to billing functions as well as providing support on organizational, administrative and practice specific matters. The ideal candidate must have possess strong accounting and solid billing experience, and the ability to identify and resolve issues. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, the ability to handle multiple priorities, and work in an organized and efficient manner.
Assists with the billing process.
Follows-up with attorney on status of active client matters.
Monitors, collects and follows-up on and reviews of time entries in preparation for generating client invoices.
Reviews prebills with billing attorneys for edits.
Reviews invoices to ensure they follow billing guidelines and attach required supporting documentation.
Responds to billing inquiries.
Handles and assists with the administrative tasks associated with opening new matters in workflow.
Handles and assists with the preparation of engagement letters.
Reviews client matters with attorneys prior to requesting them to be closed by the firm’s Accounting / Finance department.
Ensures accurate and timely completion of assigned tasks.
Undertakes special projects and ad hoc reports as needed and/or requested.
Assists with practice department activities and project work assignments as needed
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Education & Prior Experience
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Accounting or Finance.
Minimum 4+ years of experience assisting with the billing process in law firm required.
Technology
Proficiency with Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
Exceptional computer skills and ability to learn new software applications quickly
Understanding of AI capabilities, limitations, and responsible use in a professional environment.
Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, firm-approved AI tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar platforms) to support daily workflow and/or improve work quality.
The expected pay range for this position is:
$33.73 - $37.32 per hour
Salary will be determined based upon education, experience, job related factors permitted by law, internal equity, and market data, including geographic pay differentials in locations where market pay differs from the national average.
