Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,399 graduates in 2024-2025, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Position Summary:

The Lead Instructor will assist the Program Coordinator of Nursing for Workforce Solutions, with developing, planning, coordinating, and maintaining healthcare course curriculum. This position trains and supports instructors with content implementation, classroom management, documentation, and Virginia Board of Nursing compliance. The Lead Instructor may serve as a substitute instructor for healthcare courses when needed and supports administrative tasks related to the day-to-day operation of healthcare-related courses.

Functional Responsibilities:

• Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision
• Interact professionally with other employees and students.
• Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
• Assist the Program Coordinator and faculty with the development, review, revision, and alignment of healthcare course curriculum, instructional materials, skills checklists, and related learning resources.
• Serve as a substitute instructor for healthcare courses within the incumbent’s qualifications, licensure, certification, and approved instructional assignments.
• Assist with scheduling of Nursing courses and VBON exams as needed
• Assist with student clinical process.
• Adhere to all Tidewater Community College and Virginia Board of Nursing policies, procedures, program requirements, and applicable regulatory standards
• Work independently while maintaining timely communication and coordination with the Program Coordinator, instructors, students, and relevant college offices.
• Assist with transporting, organizing, and tracking medical equipment and supplies needed for healthcare classes.
• Other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of and demonstrated ability to manage processes, procedures, projects, and multiple competing priorities in a healthcare instructional environment.
• Demonstrated ability to support healthcare instructors through onboarding, coaching, communication of course expectations, and consistent implementation of approved curriculum and classroom procedures.
• Knowledge of training needs in the healthcare sector related to the local workforce.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
• Ability to support the overall management of instruction by monitoring course readiness, instructor needs, classroom operations, student progression concerns, and instructional documentation.
• Ability to make oral and written presentations and to assist with the development of effective training programs and materials.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and tasks in a highly complex work environment.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Hold an active, unrestricted registered nurse (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN) license, plus a minimum of two years of nursing experience with at least one year in a long-term care setting.
