Job Description

Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre requires a permanent, full-time Practical Applied Arts Advisor. This position can be located in Saskatoon or Kenaston.

Reporting to the Practical and Applied Arts Program Manager, this position will collaborate closely with the PAA Program Manager to coordinate the development and delivery of PAA high school courses. Your primary responsibilities will include securing work placements for trades students, maintaining relationships with industry partners, and facilitating program enhancements through data analysis and feedback.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the delivery of Practical and Applied Arts (PAA) courses, including securing work placements for trades students.
  • Find and secure work placements for DLC trades students; prepare supervisors (Online Learning Facilitators {OLFs}, Sask DLC staff, dealerships, and others) to supervise placements; track student progress, ensure student placement assessments are collected.
  • Develop and maintain successful relationships with industry and post-secondary partners and employers in order to facilitate program delivery and achieve partnership goals.
  • Utilize data analysis and feedback to guide continuous improvements and enhancements to the PAA programming.
  • Liaise with DLC Campus Administrators, Sask DLC Online Learning Facilitators and schools across the province to develop solid understanding of the PAA Pathways opportunities.
  • Liaise with the PAA Team as well as to foster a collaborative and productive work environment. Provide regular, timely feedback to assist with program delivery and early identification of issues.
  • Assist the PAA Team with developing/updating program materials including promotions, task cards, assessment forms, partner updates, etc.
  • Participate in strategic planning for Practical and Applied Arts High School programs.
  • Collaborate with the PAA team to coordinate Bootcamp with Sask Polytech for applicable programs.
  • Lead/assist OLF work placement training and professional development in order to build a meaningful, seamless student experience in trades.
  • Participate in career fairs, trade shows, and other promotional events and activities to promote DLC programs.
  • Extra Curricular program coordination associated to PAA Program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Practical and Applied Arts Program Manager.


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of data analysis and using feedback to drive program improvements.
  • Knowledge of the education system in Saskatchewan and familiarity with Practical and Applied Arts programs is an asset.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours as needed.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, business administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years experience in program coordination or project management, preferably in an educational setting.

Employment Conditions

  • Office environment/setting.
  • Typical core office hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) Monday to Friday.
  • Travel as required.
  • As with all positions, the Practical Applied Arts Coordinator, demonstrates an attitude of safety by always ensuring safety of self and others within the workplace.

What We Offer

Sask DLC offers a competitive salary (MCP05 $74,160 to $96,420), a comprehensive benefits package (health and dental, flex benefit, SDOs), and pension (Public Employees Pension Plan – PEPP)

Saskatchewan Distance Learning Center (Sask DLC) is the provincial online provider for Kindergarten to Grade 12 online learning. We support K-12 students learning online full-time, high school students taking one or more online courses within their local school or adult learners looking to upgrade or earn their Grade 12. We offer more than 150 high school courses providing students with choice in their learning to explore interests and potential career paths, with unique electives like power engineering, tourism, autobody, forensic science, animation and IT fundamentals.

Grades 10-12

High school students can choose to study online full-time from home, or take one or more online courses at their local school. Sask DLC collaborates with schools across the province to offer high school courses that will fit class schedules and graduation plans.
