Position Summary

A Comm Tech is required to assist with the planning, evaluation and management of existing complex LAN/wide-area networks, voice and the deployment and implementation of new network territories and services in Puerto Rico SG and the state Lottery. Is responsible for analyzing, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining and repairing of network infrastructure and application components. A Comm Tech performs a wide variety of evaluations, maintenance, installation and training tasks to ensure the computer network performance meets company and user satisfaction. Analyze network billing and ensure costs are within budget.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to manage diverse network platforms such as SD-WAN, MPLS, Fiber, Wireless (5G/LTE), and Broadband connections.
  • Comprehensive understanding of VPNs, and secure cloud connectivity solutions.
  • Experience with 5G/4G LTE cellular data communications and modern enterprise Wi-Fi standards (Wi-Fi 5/6/6E/7, 802.11ax/be) required.
  • Experience with network testing, automated diagnostic tools, and troubleshooting.
  • Project team participation.
  • Manage multi-site and multi-jurisdiction enterprise networks.
  • Support field network infrastructure.
  • Be responsible for maintaining stability of network communications, and analyzing and solving network outages, or routing issues.
  • Define, collect, and publish network operations metrics and service level reports.
  • Provide clear communication to all stakeholders, both technical and professional, and liaise directly with the regional team, service operations, software development and internal IT teams.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Installs, configures and maintains organization's network.
  • Performs system backups on internal and external network equipment.
  • Troubleshoots network access problems and implements network security policies and procedures.
  • Ensures network (LAN/WAN, telecommunications, and voice) security access and protects against unauthorized access, modification, or destruction.
  • Reviews of user procedures followed to determine if specified steps were taken.
  • Explains user procedures necessary to transmit data.
  • Reads technical reference manuals for communications hardware and software to learn cause of problem.
  • Updates documentation to record new equipment installed, new sites, and changes to computer configurations.
  • Inspects communications wires and cables.
  • Act as 2nd level support for the Field Service team on all communications related problems.
  • Coordinates installation of communications lines.
  • Manage security access systems.
  • Work hand to hand with ISP providers to resolve any network outage or issues.
  • Review and analyze network billing.
  • Performs these functions and all other duties assigned in the best interests of the Company.

Position Requirements/Skills & Abilities

  • High school diploma. Some college preferred. CCNA preferred. Can be combined by experience and studies.
  • 4+ years or more of experience in Networking Field.
  • Advanced knowledge of network configuration and design with CISCO networking devices required.
  • 4+ years or more of experience with Cisco Routers, Cisco FW & Switches configuration such as IP Routing, Access Lists, DHCP, IP & NAT.
  • Firm understanding of TCP/IP Protocol, subnetting and windows networking, as well as CAT5e/6/6A Ethernet cabling.
  • Monitoring tools management and analysis.
  • Detail oriented and ability to prioritize time sensitive matters.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills (English & Spanish).
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships as part of a multi-cultural team.
  • Be a self-starter.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Good analytical problem-determination and resolution skills required.

Qualifications

Environment:

Standard office environment. Occasional exposure to temperature swings from indoors to outdoors temperatures; exposure to dust from atmosphere and volumes of paper; infrequent exposure to extreme heat and humidity in non-air-conditioned facilities; extreme noise working at off-site locations; mechanical and electrical hazards of equipment; fumes and odors of burned wiring. Work environment is an 80-hour biweekly work period, with unscheduled breaks. Duties require being on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Duties may require working varying hours and days. Work is performed at several off-site locations; some work may be performed by telecommuting. Work characteristics are both formal and informal; both autonomous and team-oriented; having both routine and variable tasks; with variable pace and pressure.

Physical:

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in an office setting and operate office equipment. Continuous fine finger dexterity to manipulate small tools and equipment; Frequent walking, standing, sitting, side-to-side turning of neck; firm grasp to lift and move equipment; Occasional bending and stooping, squatting, reaching at and above shoulder height, pushing/pulling, twisting at waist, upward and downward flexion of neck; lifting of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. from below waist to above shoulder level and transporting distances up to one city block; Infrequent kneeling; lifting of objects weighing 26-50 lbs. from below waist to chest level with or without assistance and transporting distances up to 30 feet; lifting of objects weighing 51-75 lbs. from below waist to waist level with or without assistance and transporting distances up to 10 feet.

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents and to operate equipment.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
