Context & Environment

You will join the Inspection Department at the Donges Refinery, responsible for monitoring the integrity of pressure equipment, piping systems, storage tanks and transmission pipelines across the refinery. The scope covers the Crude Distillation Unit/Vacuum Distillation Unit (CDU/VDU), Visbreaking Unit (VU), Gas Conversion Refinery (GCR), Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC), PrimeG, Propyl, Aromatics Hydrofining Unit (AHU), Hydrodesulfurization Unit (HU), Ultimate Residue Treatment Unit (URT), Amines and Boilers units.

Reporting to the Head of Inspection Department, you will contribute to the management of inspection activities within the Business Teams, the implementation of Risk Based Inspection (RBI) methodologies, and the coordination of actions aimed at ensuring regulatory compliance and the continued safe operation of refinery equipment.

The position involves regular interaction with Process Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Health, Safety, Environment, Quality and Inspection (HSEQI), Projects teams, as well as inspection bodies, contractors and the Regional Directorate for Environment, Planning and Housing (DREAL).

As part of the department’s succession planning, this position has been identified as a role offering development opportunities towards increased responsibilities within the Inspection organization.

Activities

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and supporting a team of inspectors responsible for monitoring refinery equipment;
  • Leading inspection activities across the different operating units and contributing to the definition of departmental priorities;
  • Defining, deploying and updating inspection strategies and plans, particularly through RBI methodologies;
  • Ensuring the regulatory compliance of pressure equipment and adherence to inspection requirements;
  • Supervising inspection and non-destructive testing (NDT) services carried out by partner companies;
  • Participating in audits, lessons learned reviews and continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Acting as the interface with internal stakeholders and regulatory authorities, notably DREAL;
  • Contributing to the management of the Inspection Department and the evolution of its organization.

Candidate Profile

Holding an Engineering degree specializing in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Corrosion, Welding or Mechanical Engineering, you have at least 10 years of experience in industrial inspection, mechanical integrity or maintenance of process facilities. This experience has ideally been gained within the refining, petrochemical, chemical, energy or heavy industry sectors. Previous management experience is essential.

You have recognized expertise in industrial equipment integrity management, technical risk control and the application of regulatory requirements. You have been involved in defining inspection strategies, managing specialist contractors and coordinating technical teams.

You have:

  • Significant experience in pressure equipment inspection;
  • Strong knowledge of Pressure Equipment regulations;
  • Knowledge of metallurgy, corrosion, welding and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT);
  • Practical experience with RBI methodologies;
  • Experience in contractor and service provider management;
  • Professional proficiency in English (minimum B2 level).
