Job Description

Wärtsilä Energy Storage is powering the shift to a cleaner, more resilient grid.

We work at the front lines of the energy transition, helping partners around the world maximize the value of renewables through grid-scale battery systems, advanced software, and expert services. Our portfolio includes the industry-leading GEMS Digital Energy Platform, utility-scale battery solutions, and lifecycle services that keep storage assets optimized and ready when it matters most.

With over 17 GWh of storage deployed or under contract across 130+ projects globally, we’re shaping how the grid of the future works.

In a world of rising complexity and accelerating change, we’re looking for future-focused talent to help us design, deliver, and support the energy systems of tomorrow.

Sound like your kind of challenge? Let’s build it together.

We are looking for a Temporary Power Systems Engineer to contribute to the development of our power systems modeling tools. This role focuses on dynamic modeling of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in software like PSCAD, supporting grid code analysis and stability assessments of hybrid BESS + solar PV systems. The successful candidate will join our Power Systems team in a Research and Development capacity, supporting the evolution of our software capabilities and new product development in automated power system optimization.

Key Responsibilities:

· Develop and implement dynamic models for BESS.

· Transform data models and algorithms into software, conducting simulation tests to evaluate effectiveness.

· Collaborate with the hardware testing team to refine battery system modeling.

· Conduct grid code compliance studies.

· Enhance internal models and tools to facilitate faster product development.

· Document improvements to algorithms and models, explaining the structure and rationale behind new methods.

· Adapt to additional tasks outside the defined job scope as needed in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

Qualifications:

· Currently pursuing a M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in Power Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

· Solid understanding of electrical engineering principles.

· Experience in modeling inverter-based resources.

· Familiarity with modeling tools such as PSCAD and DIgSILENT.
