Join Tesla in building the power grid of the future with clean, sustainable energy. We're looking for a skilled Power Systems Engineer to help design, model, and integrate our battery storage solutions, accelerating the green-energy transformation.

As a Power Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our in-house Controller Hardware-in-the-Loop (CHIL) testing capabilities for energy storage, solar, and electric charging systems at large scale. You will collaborate with utilities, independent power providers, system operators, and various engineers in technical power systems discussions, influencing control design to enable seamless grid scaling.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and validate controls to meet diverse utility requirements, integrating control elements and creating test plans to ensure grid stability and compliance with utility standards
  • Conduct Controller Hardware-in-the-Loop (CHIL) testing to validate control behavior against design specifications and project requirements, developing and maintaining test setups, automating processes, and ensuring efficient studies with well-organized documentation
  • Identify and resolve control and communication issues using first-principles analysis and troubleshooting techniques
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify regional requirements for plant control and design, working together to develop effective solutions

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in designing, building, and maintaining hardware-software integrated setups, with strong debugging skills
  • Strong foundation in electrical principles, circuit theory, and control systems
  • Proficiency in automation scripting and control design using at least one programming language, such as Python, C, or C++
  • Expertise in simulation tools like MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, or equivalent
  • Hands-on experience with network protocols, oscilloscopes, and real-time simulation platforms (e.g., RTDS, Typhoon HIL, RTAC, Opal-RT) is a plus

Expected Compensation

$120,000 - $228,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
