As a Power Systems Engineer, you will take part in both grid operations (shift-based) and project-based office work to ensure the stability of Europe's energy system.
Shift Responsibilities (Grid Operations)
Perform cross-border capacity calculations – Assess and allocate available capacity for energy exchanges between European countries.
Monitor grid security – Analyze network conditions to detect and mitigate potential risks (e.g., overloads, instability).
Implement emergency measures – Work closely with TSOs to apply coordinated remedial actions (network reconfiguration, redispatching, etc.).
Utilize cutting-edge tools – Work with network analysis software, contingency analysis, and energy flow models
Office Responsibilities (Data Analysis & Project Work)
Investigate past critical grid events – Perform post analysis of system disturbances and propose improvements.
Contribute to strategic energy projects – Work on inter-TSO coordination, network planning initiatives, or energy security assessments.
Support digital transformation – Engage in projects related to automation, AI-driven grid forecasting, or advanced data analytics for power systems.
Represent Coreso in European working groups – Participate in initiatives related to power system security, capacity calculation methodologies, and future energy trends
What are we looking for?
A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Engineering, or a related field.
Ability to multitask in a high pressure environment while remaining calm and keep composure
Knowledge of power system operations, load flow studies, and grid security analysis
Analytical mindset – Ability to interpret complex system data and make critical decisions under pressure.
Problem-solving & communication skills – Work effectively with stakeholders across different countries.
Minimum of B2 level in English (French and/or another European language is a plus).
Willingness to work in a shift-based environment – High-responsibility decision-making role in a time-sensitive, 24/7 operational environment

Coreso is the Regional Coordination Service Centre subsidiary of 50Hertz Transmission (Germany), EirGrid (Ireland), Elia (Belgium), National Grid ESO (United Kingdom), REE (Spain), REN (Portugal), RTE (France), Terna (Italy) and SONI (Northern Ireland). The area monitored by Coreso's Brussels-based technical coordination centre covers 275 million customers, some 54% of the European Union’s population.
Coreso started its operations in February 2009 and is the first joint technical coordination centre owned by several transmission system operators. Coreso has delivered substantial improvements in operational coordination between transmission grids in response to new challenges. The growth of renewable energy sources – characterized by their variable output - coupled with the rise in cross-border exchanges in the European electricity market, are leading to increasing fluctuation in power flows. Coreso has developed a high degree of reliability and expertise. On several occasions, Coreso demonstrated its value by identifying in the electrical system risk situations that are only detectable by an overall sharing, beyond the national perimeter of each individual transmission network.
In practice, Coreso provides the control centres of participating TSOs with detailed forecasts of network security in this extended coverage zone, by producing security analyses, simulating a range of different scenarios and suggesting coordinated measures. Coreso coordinates exchanges between the national control centres, which remain operationally responsible on their respective networks.
