Power Systems Protection Technician, Entry Level – Permanent – South Metro Depot

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Power Systems Protection Technician, on a permanent full-time basis.

This role is based at our brand-new state-of-the-art South Metro Depot in Forrestdale, conveniently located next to Tonkin Highway. Spanning across 120,000 square meters. With the latest infrastructure and technology, the depot empowers all employees to create that perfect work-life balance whilst operating in an inclusive and diverse workplace.

Your Role in Action

As the Power Systems Protection Technician, you will be required to carry out commissioning and maintenance activities associated with the Transmission and Distribution Power System Protection Systems both within and external to the Western Power Business. In this role, you will also be required to:

  • Develop low level complexity work scopes and schedules for internal and external secondary systems work.
  • Plan, supervise, coordinate, and carry out activities associated with the installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance and repair of secondary equipment and systems.
  • Carry out technical inspections, prepare reports with recommendations and or arrange necessary action.
  • Manage low level CAPEX and OPEX projects in accordance with estimate, quality, resources and timing.
  • Carry out low level complexity specialist technical tasks.
  • Perform low complexity secondary systems activities for own team and external stakeholders.
  • Provide advice on protection circuit maintenance and processes of low level complexity.
  • Commission low level system impact protection circuits and primary plant without supervision.
  • Check, assess designs, calculations, estimates, specifications, working drawings and schedules.

What Makes You a Great Fit

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • Current "A" Grade Electrical Workers Licence – essential.
  • At least 4 years or more strong experience in the field protection environment relative to maintenance and commissioning activities.
  • Basic understanding of both the Transmission & Distribution operational system configurations and requirements.
  • Experience in Protection maintenance and commissioning inspection and testing practices.
  • Basic understanding of Secondary equipment maintenance practices.
  • Basic understanding of Secondary equipment commissioning practices.
  • Basic understanding of IEC61850 based substation automation.
  • Knowledge of Western Powers work standards and practices.
  • Complete knowledge of and compliance with Safety regulations and practices.
  • Valid WA Driver’s License Class C or C-A.
