The Texas Behavioral Health Center is a newly completed state-funded psychiatric hospital opening in Dallas’ Southwestern Medical District that is owned by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and operated by UT Southwestern Medical Center.

When fully operational, the 505,000-square-foot facility will house 292 beds – 200 for adult patients and 92 for children and adolescents. As DFW’s first state-funded behavioral health hospital, it is designed to deliver state-of-the-art, patient-centered care in a modern and healing environment. The center provides comprehensive behavioral health treatment and features private patient rooms, abundant access to natural light and nature, and thoughtfully designed spaces that promote recovery. The hospital will also provide training to all behavioral health disciplines.

Texas Behavioral Health Center is actively seeking an experienced Power Plant Operator II to support daily operation and maintenance of central plant equipment. This role performs journey‑level work with minimal supervision, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable operation of boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, water treatment systems, and building automation systems.

We are looking for someone with a minimum of three (3) years of paid work experience in Thermal, Power, Physical plant operations maintaining chillers, boilers, water treatment and BAS; technically skilled, safety‑focused, and proactive, with the ability to work independently, solve problems quickly, and maintain reliable plant operations in a fast‑paced environment.

Work Location Dallas, Texas - onsite 100% of time.

Shift Requirement 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Wednesday and then 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Thursday to Saturday.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Required

  • Education
    High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience
    3 years of experience in Thermal Power plant operations maintaining chillers, boilers, water treatment and BAS
    May consider additional related education in lieu of experience (each year completed from a related plant operator higher education training program may be substituted for a year of required experience; this includes related vocational or trade school).

Preferred

  • Experience
    Completion of certified operator program and experience in university physical plant environment.
  • Licenses and Certifications

JOB DUTIES

  • Starts up, shuts down, and adjusts power plant and/or chilling station equipment or systems in accordance with established operational and safety procedures.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment and work areas. Monitors equipment and maintains records of equipment operational status.
  • Modifies and changes graphics as systems change and are upgraded.
  • Operates control computer systems. Recognize and identifies issues, troubleshoots and analyzes problems based on equipment operation records.
  • Performs detailed inspections of operating equipment for proper operation.
  • Informs appropriate personnel of unusual conditions, problems or deficiencies.
  • Identifies and reports safety hazards and equipment malfunctions.
  • Supervises support staff as needed. Attends meetings and training courses. Trains new personnel as required.
  • May perform preventative or corrective maintenance tasks to operation of mechanical or electrical systems.
  • May complete work orders using automated maintenance program systems.
  • Able to work with contractors on projects and other maintenance activities in the plant.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
