Position Responsibilities
Maintains a safe workplace program and ensures that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
Complies withall ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements, goals,policiesand procedures. Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legaldocumentation.
Performs preventive maintenance and repair on all switchgear control circuits, generators,contactorsand relaysin accordance withprocedures and manufacturers’ recommendations.
Tests and repairs all safety circuits in generator and control units.
Inspects electrical power generation systems to ensure that no faults exist.
Monitors operation of all power generation electrical components to ensure proper operation.
Monitors loading;operatespower generation equipment in an efficient and economical manner.
Completes maintenance records andmaintainsoperating logbooks asrequired; documents all maintenanceperformed.
Coordinates with theUtilities Supervisor or their on-ice representativeto order repair and/or spare parts, maintenance parts, assemblies,toolsand consumables.
Advises theUtilities Supervisor or their on-ice representativethe status of power production stock,equipmentand systems.
Maintains control of Power Plant Electrician's tools and manuals.
Maintainsinventory accuracy at 98% or better.
Trains Power Plant Operators and Mechanics on Power Plant operation and equipment as directed.
Ability to cover Power Plant Operator shift / rounds asrequired
Supports the achievement of metrics, whether metrics are directly or indirectly, affected by this position’s workactivities.
Works to achieve goals and contractual commitments.
Troubleshoots and repairs electrical problems.
Willingness to work a rotating shiftday,swingor night shift.
Responds to power outages and equipment failures asrequired
Evaluates job hazards and communicates information to staff verbally and in writing through various venues, including weekly and/or daily crew meetings.
Interprets project taskingutilizingdesign drawings,specificationsand diagrams.
Communicates professionally, both orally and in writing, with their superiors and peers as needed to relay information they needin order tobe successful in their jobs. This includes, but is not limited to,staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, division metrics, projects, Quality Standard Procedures, and safety practices.
May berequiredto work outside on various jobsites in extremecold weatherand environmentally challenging conditions.
Interacts with other partner companies, the National Science Foundation,militaryand other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person. Is kind, courteous,cooperativeand professionalat all times
Participate in dormitory chores while deployed to Antarctica.

RequiredEducation, Experience, Certificates and Licenses
High School diploma orGED
A current Journeyman Electrician license, a current Master Electrician license, or equivalent Union membership in good standingA Journeyman license requiring less than 8,000 hours or of the Residential type shall not be considered.
Minimum four years (8,000 Hours) documented experience in all phases of electrical work, with at least 2 of those years being inpower distribution wiring,directly relatedpower plant/electrical switchgear and control panel maintenance and repair.
ExpectedSkills and Competencies:
Ability to read design drawings and wiring diagrams isrequired
Mechanical aptitude with the ability to handle multiple tasks at once isrequired
Thorough knowledge of the methods, hazards, and safety precautions related to diesel engines and diesel engine driven electric generators isrequired
Ability tomaintaina professional attitude and to work efficiently in a stressful environment isrequired
Working comprehension of electrical distribution, controlpanelsand medium voltage switchgear.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
Preferred
Previousexperience with remote Polar Logistics operations is preferred.
Experience working with AC and DC voltages from 12 up to 4160 ispreferred.
Mechanical, construction, or other industrial experience is preferred.
Physical and/or Other Requirements
Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica
Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer
Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF
Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.
Mustparticipatein community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safetyobjectives
Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States
Must be able to obtain andmaintainfacility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship isrequiredfor facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
