With Safety and Compliance in the forefront, responsible for minute-to-minute optimization of AEP’s Regulated generation fleet and load obligations, on an assigned desk (e.g. PJM, SPP , or Hydro). This includes adherence to all FERC / NERC / RTO and Corps of Engineers requirements during normal and emergency conditions. It also requires a continuous improvement mindset to drive change and provide input on potential market changes.
This position has the authority and is expected to perform all necessary tasks to maintain the reliability of the grid in both normal and emergency conditions, without consulting upper management, and in support of and under the direction of the respective Transmission Operator, Balancing Authority, and the Reliability Coordinator.
This is primarily a 12-hour rotating shift position including days, nights, weekends and holidays. However, this individual may also be assigned to dayshift to assist in the ongoing support and coordination of all Real Time Market Operations (RTMO) rotating teams and interfaces with other groups within Commercial Operations, the broader Generation organization, Regulatory, Technology and other groups within and outside AEP. Day shift assignment also includes being able to fill in on the RTMO rotating teams as needed.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Based on education, experience, interview evaluation and internal equity, three (3) opportunities will be filled commensurately within the (Power) Real-Time Market Operations (RTMO) job family.
(Power) Real-Time Market Operations (mid-level) (grade 7): base salary = $88K - $109K
(Power) Real-Time Market Operations Associate (grade 6) = base salary = $75K - $93K.
Minimum Qualifications for Real Time Market Operations Associate (grade 6):
Education Entry-level candidates should have a two-year technical degree or two years of military service in a related field; OR High School diploma/GED with 2 years of relevant, industrial work experience.
Experience No additional experience required, 2 years of relevant work experience that demonstrates an ability to operate a power system desired.
The following experience is a significant plus:
• Power industry and/ or power plant experience
• Renewables technician and or Renewables Remote Operation Center experience
Licenses/Certifications: Must obtain PJM Certification within 18 months of hiring.
Additional Requirements: Appropriate pre-employment test required.
Minimum Qualifications for Real Time Market Operations (grade 7):
Education Two-year technical or business degree, or high school diploma and 10 years power industry experience.
Experience In addition to any experience required above, 2 years Market Operations or equivalent experience. In lieu of PJM certification, 10 years power plant experience, and PJM Certification to be completed with 6 months of hiring.
