Job Description

Power Generation Engineer – Thermal Generation

Location: Brisbane

Want to shape a better future — and be supported while you do it?

You already know Aurecon as a respected engineering, design and advisory company. What you may not know is just how deeply we invest in our people — their ideas, their growth, and the impact they want to make.

At Aurecon, every project leaves a legacy. Sustainability is embedded in our decisions, and technical excellence is a given — but it’s the why behind the work that often draws people to us.

The truth is, the choices being made today will shape the world our children and communities inherit. One of the most powerful choices you can make? Who you choose to work with — and how supported you feel doing your best work.

So, what kind of future do you want to help create?

How will your expertise help shape what’s next?

As a Power Generation Engineer with a focus on thermal generation technologies, you’ll play a key role within Aurecon’s Power Generation team, partnering closely with clients and colleagues to deliver projects with clarity, confidence and care.

You’ll be trusted for your technical leadership, valued for how you collaborate, and supported to influence outcomes across the full project lifecycle.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert technical input across all stages of thermal generation projects — from feasibility and concept design through to construction and commissioning.
  • Acting as Owner’s Engineer technical lead, reviewing core technology OEM designs, balance of plant (BoP) engineering and performance models.
  • Developing and reviewing key project documentation such as technical specifications, tender evaluations, grid connection studies and risk assessments.
  • Collaborating closely with environment, planning and multidisciplinary teams to review project layouts, power island configurations, access roads and electrical, gas, water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Supporting clients through technical due diligence, design reviews, construction monitoring and commissioning verification.
  • Staying curious and up to date with evolving technologies, regulations and industry best practice to deliver thoughtful, future‑focused solutions.

What we’re looking for

We know there’s no single “perfect” background. We’re interested in what you bring — your experience, your perspective, and how you’ve worked with others to turn ideas into outcomes.

You’ll bring:

  • Experience in a similar technical or Owner’s Engineer role on gas turbine and or reciprocating internal combustion engine projects across design, procurement and/or construction phases.
  • A strong understanding of thermal generation technology, electrical systems, grid connections and key civil or structural interfaces.
  • A background in MV/HV electrical design, thermal energy, or mechanical or civil engineering — with demonstrated technical leadership.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards (IEC, ISO) and regulatory frameworks, including health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • RPEQ registration, or eligibility to obtain registration, is required.

If you meet most — but not all — of the criteria, we still encourage you to apply. Confidence grows through opportunity, and we’re committed to supporting growth

Think you know Aurecon? You may be surprised.

But what really sets Aurecon apart is the culture behind the projects: one where diverse voices are valued, flexibility is supported, and people are empowered to thrive — professionally and personally.

When you join Aurecon, you join a global community working together to solve complex challenges while creating space for individual success.
