Job Description

Activities aimed at proving a concept to be valid or technically feasible by the application of scientific and engineering methodologies. Work in this family typically has the objective of demonstrating through test or analyses the performance and implementation potential of a concept

Impacts quality of own work and the work of others on the team. Executes standard operational/technical tasks typically subject to instructions and work routines. There is latitude to rearrange the sequence to complete task/duties based on changing work situations.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Use design tools to specify converter valves and deliver valve design report to support tender and project.
  • Generate technical documentations (such as valve design, type test specification, routine test specification and site pre-commissioning specifications) to deliver converter valves at project stage
  • Working against customer specification at project stage (Clause by Clause, Risk analysis).
  • Integration with other engineering departments for product definition (System design, Main Scheme, Layout, Commercial).
  • Testing and validation for high voltage power electronic including IGBT and thyristor and passive component used in valve converter.
  • Design or application experience on IGBT and thyristor driver circuit.
  • Design experience on the protection and control circuit for IGBT and thyristor.
  • Performing routine and type test specifications and pre-commissioning testing.
  • Product support during complete life cycle from development to tender and commissioning of project
  • Support site activities during installation of the valve converter, pre-commissioning and training for customer.

Required Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level in electrical or power electronic engineering

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience for power electronic converters (such as high power motor drives, HVDC and FACTS applications)
  • Experience on high power electronic components (IGBTs, thyristors, passive components)
  • Experience on testing and validation of power electronic device
  • Thermal Design (loss calculations, heatsink specification liquid cooling)
  • Specification and report writing
  • Simulation tools such as Matlab-Simulink, PSCAD-EMTDC
  • Requirements capture
  • Risk analysis
  • EHS compliance ability
  • Good communication skills
  • High Voltage engineering
  • Ability to coordinate and lead a small group of engineers
