
The Power Electronics Design Engineer (m/f/d) is responsible for the electronic design of inverters and power electronic components for battery electric vehicles. You will be part of a multicultural, multidisciplinary Technology & Innovation team, working on the definition and development of power electronics for the next generation of battery electric vehicles targeting the eMobility mass market. Your responsibilities will include developing new power electronic concepts, creating electronic schematics, and performing verification testing of your concepts and designs. The role covers the complete development cycle of advanced inverter systems, from early concept and requirements definition through design and manufacturing to prototype and sample testing.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Develop complete schematics and bills of materials (BOMs) for next-generation power electronic components, with a strong focus on the power path, e.g., traction inverters
Review and approve electrical design requirements for power electronic components
Perform circuit design optimizations and implement innovative circuit concepts
Conduct comparative evaluations of various design concepts and electrical components
Develop optimized inverter designs in collaboration with Mechanical Engineers and System Architects
Perform electrical simulations of power electronic designs and collaborate closely with simulation engineers
Lead PCB layout activities by working closely with ECAD engineers
Organize and conduct schematic and layout reviews
Support prototype build activities in the prototype workshop
Perform functional hardware bench testing and design verification
Conduct technology scouting activities and contribute to future product and technology roadmaps
Your Profile:
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a comparable field
At least 5 years of experience in electrical design engineering within the power electronics industry
Deep knowledge of circuit design, PCB layout processes, and industry-standard PCB design tools
Extensive experience in the design and application of power semiconductors (SiC MOSFETs, IGBTs), gate-driver circuits, isolated power supplies, and protection functions for automotive power electronics
Proven experience in the development of high-voltage inverter systems, including power stage design, DC-link architecture, current and voltage sensing, thermal considerations, and system integration
Solid understanding of modern system simulation methodologies for high-voltage systems
Hands-on experience with simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, Ansys, and PSpice/LTspice
Strong knowledge of EMC-related design practices and compliance requirements
Basic understanding of Functional Safety according to ISO 26262
Proficient in MS Office, CAD tools, and simulation software
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Fluency in both English and German
