Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

This description of job responsibilities is intended to reflect the major responsibilities and duties of the job, but is not intended to describe minor duties or other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time.

  • Visualization: Creating interactive reports in Power BI, DAX, and Power Query.
  • Data Integration: Using Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Databricks to manage data.
  • Analysis: Performing data modeling, ETL, and SQL querying.
  • Infrastructure: Managing Power BI workspaces, Azure security, Publication, and Access.
  • Connect Power BI reports to Azure SQL Databases as primary data sources.
  • Assist with data validation and troubleshooting.
  • Build and maintain Power BI semantic models, including relationships, measures (DAX), and performance tuning.
  • Advanced Power BI skills, including dashboard design, report development, data modeling, and DAX, Power Query and SQL.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts.
  • Strong understanding of data visualization principles and visual storytelling.
  • Experience working directly with business users to translate requirements into effective visual solutions.
  • Experience connecting Power BI to Azure SQL Database.
  • Experience with Azure data services (e.g., Azure SQL, Data Lake).
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain insights to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear code and processes that are well documented and stored in a version control system.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teams, in both a lead and support role.
  • Effective time management skills, including demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
  • Maintain and develop reporting and product portfolio, identify data and reporting sources, analyze reporting differences.
  • Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain reporting, insights, and analytic product solutions in support of data and analytics projects, including the support of integrating new sources of data into our central data warehouse.

Azure & Data Platform (Supporting Focus)

  • Connect Power BI reports to Azure SQL Databases as primary data sources.
  • Write and review SQL queries to support visualization and analytical needs.
  • Understand underlying data models (e.g., fact and dimension structures) to ensure accurate and performant visuals.
  • Work with Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipelines at a functional level to understand data ingestion and transformations.
  • Assist with data validation and troubleshooting, including:
  • Reviewing and validating raw .csv source files
  • Identifying data issues across ingestion, transformation, and reporting layer
  • Collaborating with data engineering teams to resolve data quality concerns

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Power BI Developer, Architect or similar role.
  • Advanced Power BI skills, including dashboard design, report development, data modeling, and DAX, Power Query and SQL.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts.
  • Strong understanding of data visualization principles and visual storytelling.
  • Experience working directly with business users to translate requirements into effective visual solutions.
  • Experience connecting Power BI to Azure SQL Database.
  • Experience with Azure data services (e.g., Azure SQL, Data Lake).
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain insights to non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new techniques and troubleshoot issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear code and processes that are well documented and stored in a version control system.
