Job Description

The Stelzer Lab in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Case Western Reserve University is seeking a qualified candidate for a postdoctoral position in cardiac therapeutics. The postdoctoral scholar will pursue development of experiments utilizing a variety of techniques to expand knowledge of cardiac myosin function. Experimental work will involve mouse models of disease as in-vitro systems. This is a one year appointment with the possibility of renewing for an additonal year.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Utilize advanced surgical techiques, such as PV loops and aortic constriction, to examine changes in cardiac function in-vivo.
• Utilize echocardiography and other non-invasive techniques to examine cardiac function in mouse models of disease.
• Optimize experiments using Ionoptix MyoClamp system for advanced muscle mechanics.
• Analyze large data sets and perform statistical analysis using multiple techiques.
• Develop new techniques and protocols to advance research projects within the lab.
• Communication of results to the scientific community. Preparation of manuscripts and presentation of findings at scientific meetings.
• Write and apply for grants with the PI and as an Indpendent PI. Submit subsequent grant applications as needed to maintain independent research and funding

Qualifications

• Doctorate in Physiology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
• Experience with cellular and molecular biology and animal models of disease.
• Outstanding record of academic publications.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States.
• Candidates should have at least one peer reviewed publication. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment

In compliance with the City of Cleveland's Pay Transparency Ordinance (effective October 27, 2025), the annual starting base salary range for this position is $55,000-$63,480. CWRU considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer. Postdocs receive individual and family healthcare benefits, life insurance, and employee assistance.
