Job Description

The Department of Dermatology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Scholar to join our research program. The position will be in the laboratory of Dr. Mahmoud Ghannoum. The laboratory focuses on the mucosal and gut microbiome

The chosen candidate will spearhead active research projects utilizing mouse models, anaerobic microbiology, high-throughput sequencing, and advanced flow cytometry to characterize host and microbe response.

Responsibilities and Duties

· Experimentation Plan, organize, and execute complex scientific experiments involving microbial cultivation, immunology profiling, and processing of murine or human clinical tissue samples.

· Data Management Perform computational, genomic, and transcriptomic analyses on microbiome sequencing datasets.

· Dissemination Analyze data, prepare figures, and write high-quality scientific manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

· Collaboration Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of immunologists, microbiologists, and bioinformaticians across the university and affiliated hospital systems.

· Lab Support Assist the Principal Investigator (PI) with drafting laboratory protocols, maintaining regulatory compliance, and mentoring graduate/undergraduate students.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

·Education Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in Immunology, Microbiology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, or a closely related biological field.

·Technical Experience

oHands-on experience with multi-color flow cytometry, cell sorting, and standard immunological assays (ELISA, Western Blotting, cell culture).

oExpertise in fungal and microbial biology including MIC assays,

oExperience with handling, breeding, and treating laboratory mouse models.

oPrior exposure to anaerobic microbiology or molecular cloning techniques is highly preferred.

·Preferred Skills Basic familiarity with bioinformatics pipelines (e.g., QIIME2, R, Python) for microbiome or RNA-seq dataset analysis is a strong plus.

·Soft Skills Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong problem-solving capabilities, and a demonstrated track record of productivity (such as first-author publications).

In compliance with the City of Cleveland’s Pay Transparency Ordinance (effective October 27, 2025), the annual starting base salary range for this position is $55,000 - $63,480. CWRU considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
