Job Description

The SDLE Research Center at Case Western Reserve University is actively seeking highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholars to join our Materials Data Science program, with a focus on Machine Learning on Chemical Reactions for Molecular Discovery using Deep Learning.

We combine cutting-edge Applied Data Science tools and methods to solve real-world problems in materials data science and semantic data management spanning domains of synchrotron Science, chemical formulations, advanced manufacturing and aging and lifetime. You will work in a highly collaborative, dynamic and interdisciplinary team science environment to solve complex data challenges in materials science. Essential Functions

1.Serve as lead researcher on funded research awards and perform research directly supporting the SDLE Research Center’s funded research portfolio, ensuring projects remain on schedule and meet milestones as defined in the scope of work. Record, analyze and present data on all work relevant to the project. Prepare reports on the progress of the program. Mentor and monitor graduate students, undergraduate and high school students on active research projects and maintain a team science environment through a comprehensive understanding of cross-cutting themes and research thrusts across all projects. Participate in project discussions and project planning. (80%)

2.Lead proposal development to generate new externally-funded research. Coordinate with staff and research collaborators in government, industry, and academia to ensure proposal teaming is comprehensive and sufficiently meets research needs. (13%)

3.Oversee reporting and review for release requirements for supported research awards, coordinating with students and research collaborators to ensure research output, including but not limited to presentations, publications, and proceedings, are reviewed, documented, and disseminated in accordance with best practices and individual award requirements. (5%)

In compliance with the City of Cleveland’s Pay Transparency Ordinance (effective October 27, 2025), the annual starting base salary range for this position is $55,000 -$62,652. CWRU considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer. Postdocs receive individual and family healthcare benefits, life insurance, and employee assistance.

Qualifications

Education: PhD. Degree in Materials Science and Engineering or related discipline.
