About Us:

At the forefront of medical discovery as it relates to understanding the causes of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia, Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a campus of Louisiana State University and conducts basic, clinical and population research. The Center includes Basic Science, Clinical Research, and Population and Public Health, enabling both focused research and translational science. Research at Pennington Biomedical is supported broadly by multiple NIH Research Centers, and includes approximately 65 faculty and 20 postdoctoral fellows who comprise a network of 44 laboratories and 13 highly specialized core service facilities. Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Behavior Technology Laboratory: Health, Performance & Resilience.

The successful candidate will join the Behavior Technology Laboratory: Health, Performance & Resilience, which develops and evaluates evidence-based behavioral interventions and technology-enabled solutions designed to enhance health, performance, and resilience in high-performance populations. The laboratory's work spans prevention, assessment, and treatment, with a particular focus on NCAA athletes, elite athletes, U.S. Military Soldiers, military families, and youth participating in sport.

Research areas include psychological resilience, mental health, body image, disordered eating and eating disorders, performance under pressure, sleep, nutrition, and health behaviors that support long-term well-being and performance. The laboratory integrates clinical science, population health, and technology development to translate research into scalable tools and interventions delivered through smartphone applications, digital platforms, athletic systems, military settings, schools, and healthcare environments. In addition to community- and field-based research, the laboratory provides clinical services for athletes and individuals experiencing body image concerns, disordered eating, eating disorders, and related mental health challenges. The postdoctoral fellow will participate in all aspects of clinical, translational, and population science research.

Responsibilities may include staffing and treating complex clinical cases involving body image disturbance, disordered eating, eating disorders, and mental health concerns; developing and evaluating technology-based interventions; designing and implementing research studies; managing study operations; conducting data analysis; and disseminating findings through scientific presentations and publications.

Candidates with experience or strong interest in the prevention and treatment of body image disturbance, disordered eating, eating disorders, athlete mental health, psychological resilience, performance psychology, and/or military behavioral health are particularly encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate will be excited to contribute to innovative research that advances health, performance, and resilience in athletes, Soldiers, and other high-performing populations.

Major Responsibilities

  • Conduct research studies on the prevention and treatment of disordered eating, eating disorders, low energy availability, mental health conditions, and REDs.
  • Conduct research studies on improving health, performance, and mental resilience in the military.
  • Contribute to ongoing research efforts on performance optimization strategies via health behaviors.
  • Develop content and functionality for technology-based delivery of interventions.
  • Assist in conducting statistical analyses of datasets.
  • Prepare peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and abstracts.

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in nutrition, psychology, exercise science, kinesiology, epidemiology, public health, or related field.
  • Demonstrated research experience in behavioral health, clinical science, translational research, population health, or performance psychology.
  • Experience working with or strong interest in high-performance populations, including athletes, military personnel, military families, or youth in sport settings.
  • Experience conducting human subjects research, including study coordination, participant recruitment, data collection, and regulatory compliance.
  • Record of scholarly productivity, including peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, or other scientific dissemination activities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary research and clinical teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple research and clinical responsibilities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and organizational effectiveness.
  • Knowledge of ethical principles, confidentiality standards, and regulatory requirements related to clinical and research activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of evidence-based approaches related to mental health, psychological resilience, body image, disordered eating, eating disorders, sleep, nutrition, health behaviors, and/or performance optimization.
  • Proficiency with technology-enabled research or intervention platforms, including digital health tools, smartphone applications, telehealth, or electronic data capture systems.
  • Experience with quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis and statistical software such as SPSS, SAS, R, STATA, or similar platforms.
