A Postdoctoral Researcher position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Powell in the Department of Biological Sciences, Louisiana State University. The focus of this position is to study how sexual selection and environment interact to shape broader patterns of evolution in ornamentation and mating behaviors in livebearing fish (Poeciliidae). We seek a talented, motivated, and committed individual interested in influencing the early stages of research program focused on sexual selection, behavioral ecology, population genomics, and evolutionary biology more broadly.

Duties include:

70% Research: including but not limited to all stages of experimentation from experimental design and project management through execution and dissemination of results via peer reviewed journal publications and professional meeting presentations. This includes both laboratory and field work abroad.

25% Service, Training and Mentorship: The successful candidate will help with onboarding, training and mentoring graduate and undergraduate researcher in service of the students needs as well as the overarching goals of the laboratory group.

5% Other tasks assigned by the PI, which may include but are not limited to; laboratory maintenance, fish husbandry, and field logistics.

Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Evolutionary Biology or related field with 1-2 years experience.

Specific experience in the field in freshwater aquatic systems as well as aquatic animal husbandry. Strong background in behavioral ecology and matings-system evolution.

Job competencies required:

Advanced in Experimental design and project management;

Proficient in Aquatic animal husbandry.

Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in Evolutionary Biology or related field with 3-4 years experience.

Publication record demonstrating a strong background and empircal work in sexual selection and matings-system evolution. Experience with basic molecular lab techniques. Specifically DNA and RNA extraction, genomic library prep. Familiarity with down stream genomic analyses
