Job Description

The Arizona State University's Biodesign Center for BioEnergetics and Professor Sidney Hecht invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Scholar to assist with chemical aspects of the biosynthesis of peptides and proteins containing non-proteinogenic amino acids. The goal of the work includes innovations in the preparation of amino acids and activation of aminoacyl-tRNAs, and participation in understanding the effects of the newly prepared amino acids in altering peptide and protein function. This position is anticpated to be filled in November 2026.

Essential Duties

• Design and synthesis of new amino acid analogues
• Preparation of oligonucleotide derivatives of these amino acid analogues
• Purification and characterization of the peptides and proteins created in in vitro, and in vivo biochemical systems.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D in a related field with a strong background in synthetic organic chemistry or closely related field

Desired Qualifications:

• Demonstrated previous experience working with amino acids, proteins, nucleotides, and/or heterocyclic chemistry.
