Job Description

The Biodesign Center at Arizona State University is hiring for a Postdoctoral Research Scholar within 1 year of their completion of their PhD program in the Biodesign Center for Applied Structural Discovery. This person will report to Dr. Alexandra Ros.

Essential Duties:

  • Design and fabricate polymer microfluidic devices for protein crystallization screening.
  • Design and conduct workflows to establish efficient protein crystallization screening conditions in microfluidic devices.
  • Work in a team of researchers to develop protein crystallization screening devices for space travel and operation in microgravity.
  • Perform numerical modeling analysis to test and refine microfluidic devices and establish suitable data analysis tools.
  • Advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students on research topics and suitable laboratory practices.
  • Establish suitable laboratory safety practices for work with proteins and required solvents and chemicals.
  • Practice electronic notebook taking, summarize research in reports on a regular basis and present to other team members and collaborators.
  • Photolithography and microfabrication techniques
  • Microfluidic device assembly and fabrication
  • Work in a class 1000 clean room
  • Proficiency with standard wet lab practices

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in Physics, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry within 1 year of completion

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with polymer microfluidic devices
  • Experience with protein crystallization
  • Experience with numerical modelling
