About This Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and inquisitive Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to world-leading, industry-connected research within the Australasian Transformer Innovation Centre (TIC) at The University of Queensland. This role sits within a collaborative, ambitious research environment focused on advancing transformer operation, monitoring and life management in renewable-dominated power systems. Working alongside visionary academics, industry experts and research partners, you will help translate cutting-edge research into real-world impact for Australia’s evolving energy network.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Research:
    • Develop and deliver a coherent research program focused on transformer operation, condition monitoring and life management, including hardware-software testbeds, automation, and data analytics using AI and machine learning.
    • Work closely with industry and research partners to support knowledge transfer, technology demonstration and potential commercialisation outcomes.
  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to the supervision and development of Honours and Higher Degree Research students, supporting a positive, high-performing research culture.
  • Citizenship and Service: Actively contribute to the life of the School and Centre through collaboration, service roles, industry engagement and upholding University values.

About You

You will bring a strong foundation in research and a passion for solving complex, real-world energy challenges. You will also demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and with industry.

  • Completion or near completion of a PhD in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • An emerging research profile in transformer condition monitoring, operation or life management.
  • Demonstrated experience or capability in designing and prototyping hardware experiments with automation.
  • Knowledge of, or strong interest in, data analytics, AI and machine learning applied to power systems or asset management.
  • Evidence of research outputs in reputable refereed journals and presentations at conferences.
  • Capacity to work effectively with industry partners and contribute to collaborative research projects.
  • Experience contributing to supervision, mentoring or researcher development activities.
  • A commitment to collegiality, integrity, safety and inclusive work practices.
