Job Description

About This Opportunity

The primary purpose of this position is to provide experimental execution leadership and manage the logistics involved in developing a large Arabidopsis Nested Association Mapping (NAM) experiment.

The NAM experiment is designed to generate 25,000 plants from designed crosses to be advanced to the F5 generation. The F5 plants will be genotyped using skim sequencing and phenotyped for key development and architecture traits using a combination of manual and high-throughput phenotyping methods. The results will provide an experimental resource to develop and test novel genome-to-phenome prediction models for the plant development and architecture traits and a foundation to test prediction-based plant breeding theory.

Key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Produce high-quality research outputs and contribute to the development of an emerging research profile within the discipline.

  • Collaborate on research projects and competitive funding applications, contributing to innovative and impactful research outcomes.

  • Apply best-practice research methodologies and support the translation and commercialisation of research, knowledge and intellectual property.

  • Contribute to the supervision, mentoring and professional development of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students and research staff.

  • Support a positive and collaborative team environment through effective communication, leadership, coaching and adherence to University policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrate strong citizenship and service by contributing to committees, operational activities, stakeholder engagement and the development of external partnerships aligned with UQ values.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position through to 31st December 2027, at Academic Level A.
