About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is seeking a Postdoctoral or Research Associate in Sustainability to join School of Physics in Faculty of Science. You will apply and develop your expertise to further the research agenda of the Faculty and School.

Working under broad supervision of Professor Arunima Malik, you will contribute to research independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality scholarly outcomes and supporting externally funded projects. This role offers an opportunity to build your research profile, strengthen stakeholder networks, and contribute to meaningful sustainability outcomes.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • conduct research and scholarly activity independently or as part of a team, contributing to supply chain sustainability assessments

  • develop and refine independent research skills under the guidance of senior academic staff

  • apply appropriate research methods in supply chain modelling and plan, prioritise and deliver against project objectives

  • contribute to research outputs, including publications, reports and presentations

  • provide informal mentoring and advice to students within the discipline

  • undertake administrative tasks and contribute to faculty or school meetings

  • collaborate with academic, industry and professional stakeholders to support research activities

  • contribute to a positive, inclusive and high-performing workplace culture


About you

  • a PhD (or near completion) in sustainability, environmental science, engineering or a related field

  • demonstrated experience conducting original research or scholarly activity

  • demonstrated experience in supply chain modelling, including experience using life cycle assessment techniques

  • a developing research profile with potential for high-quality outputs

  • demonstrated understanding of subject matter within the discipline

  • experience in planning, organising and delivering research activities

  • ability to communicate effectively, including presenting research findings

  • a developing network of academic, industry or professional stakeholders
