Postdoctoral Research Associate – Early Childhood Systems & Data Science

of Duties and Responsibilities:

The Postdoctoral Researcher will contribute to policy-relevant research funded by federal and state agencies, focusing on early childhood, family well-being, public health, and education systems. The role involves collaboration with a multidisciplinary team led by Dr. Heather Rouse and other investigators across Iowa State University and partner institutions.

This team specializes in mixed-methods research using national datasets, state administrative data, and survey/focus group approaches to examine early risk and protective factors in children’s home and community environments.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in psychology, human development and family studies, educational policy, sociology, or a related field
  • Advanced proficiency in dataset management and statistical analysis using Stata, R, and/or other specialized software
  • Demonstrated record of analytic writing in early childhood, education, or family studies, including evidence of publication.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience analyzing national datasets such as the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study–Birth Cohort and/or other large-scale population-level data
  • Experience conducting advanced quantitative analyses (e.g., longitudinal and multilevel modeling, latent class/profile analysis, propensity score analysis)
  • Demonstrated ability to translate quantitative findings for both academic and non-academic audiences

This work will be informed by actionable intelligence derived from a statewide integrated data system that comprehensively identifies and addresses the needs of Iowa’s young children and their families.
