Job Description

The Vivian Cheung Lab at Brown University is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our multidisciplinary team at the interface of RNA biology, neuroscience, and quantitative modeling.

As a key participant in the Human RNome Project, our lab is dedicated to the rigorous quantification and mechanistic discovery of how RNA modifications and dynamics govern human health. This project focuses on developing human iPSC-derived tri-culture organoid systems (neurons, astrocytes, and microglia) to investigate how transcriptional and co-transcriptional processes influence cellular interactions and neurodegenerative disease states.

Key Responsibilities

  • Experimental Development Establish and characterize complex 3D neural organoid models (incorporating neurons, astrocytes, and microglia).
  • Mechanistic Inquiry Use nascent RNA sequencing and molecular biology to study co-transcriptional dynamics and RNA-level regulation.
  • Quantitative Analysis Apply statistical and mathematical frameworks to interpret large-scale transcriptomic and kinetic datasets.
  • Collaborative Discovery Work across traditional disciplinary boundaries to integrate biological findings with quantitative models.

Qualifications

Required

  • Education: Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Human Genetics, Neuroscience, Bioengineering, or a related life sciences field.
  • Solid Foundation in Human Biology: Deep understanding of molecular mechanisms, preferably within a neuroscience or RNA context.
  • Strong Familiarity with Quantitative Modeling: Proven ability to use computational, mathematical, or statistical models to solve biological problems.
  • Programming Literacy: Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis and visualization.
  • Experimental Skillset: Extensive experience with mammalian cell culture (human iPSC experience is highly preferred) and standard molecular biology techniques.

Desired

  • Experience with 3D culture, organoids, or glia-neuron interaction models.
  • Familiarity with RNA-seq, PRO-seq, or other high-resolution transcriptomic technologies.

Applicants must have completed all requirements for a doctoral degree before start of the position. Salary will be based on Brown’s minimum pay scale and is commensurate with experience.
