Texas A&M University's Department of Chemistry is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct cutting-edge research in the area of radical S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) enzyme biochemistry and mechanism. This position will utilize protein overexpression, anaerobic protein purification techniques, and a variety of bioanalytical, spectroscopic, and structural approaches, including electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, to investigate enzyme function and reaction mechanisms. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will perform studies focused on trapping and characterizing reaction intermediates, contribute to research publications, proposals, and scientific presentations, and maintain laboratory facilities and equipment. The role also involves collaborating with faculty and researchers, mentoring and supervising student researchers and graduate students, and communicating research findings to both small and large scientific audiences through presentations and other scholarly activities.
Opportunities to Contribute
Conducts specialized research in the area of radical SAM enzyme biochemistry and mechanism.
Employs protein overexpression, anaerobic methods for protein purification, and various bioanalytical tools to assess protein purity and properties.
Utilizes electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy alongside advanced spectroscopic and structural approaches to study enzymes of interest.
Pursues the precise trapping and characterization of reaction intermediates.
Analyzes research data, summarizes results, and actively writes and contributes figures to research papers, articles, publications, and proposals.
Collaborates effectively with other researchers and/or faculty on project milestones.
Assists with the preparation, routine cleaning, and safety of the worksite, as well as the specialized maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Assists, mentors, and/or supervises undergraduate student researchers and/or graduate students working on research related to the project.
Fosters a safe, collaborative, and productive environment within the research lab.
Prepares detailed presentation materials on individual research topics and/or related scientific literature for delivery to small and/or large groups.
Participates in project discussions and contributes to necessary technical progress reports.
Qualifications
PhD in a related field.
A well-qualified candidate for this position will also possess:

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.
Special Note: Due to this position’s salary having all or a portion of it being funded by grants or contracts, the continuing salary and overall employment is contingent upon availability of these funds in the future.
