The Institute for the Study of Religion, Economics, and Society (IRES) at Chapman University is currently accepting applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in the economics of religion. The fellowship will commence in Fall 2027 and may be renewed for up to two years.

The Institute for the Study of Religion, Economics, and Society (IRES) was founded at Chapman University in September 2009 by Dr. Laurence Iannaccone. IRES is unique in its aim to enhance our comprehension of the connections between religion, economy, and society through an interdisciplinary approach. The institute brings together economists, sociologists, and other social scientists in the study of religion. This is accomplished through various means, such as scholarly publications, research seminars, training workshops, conferences, courses, online resources, and public lectures.
IRES is home to the Association for the Study of Religion, Economics, and Culture (ASREC) and partners with the Association of Religion Data Archives (ARDA), positioning the institute as a hub within a rapidly expanding international network of scholars and students.
This fellowship offers an exceptional opportunity for highly promising scholars to conduct research at Chapman University's Institute for the Study of Religion, Economics, and Society (IRES). We seek scholars who can connect the study of religion to economics, political science, or sociology. Selected candidates will conduct research in one or more of these disciplines while at Chapman. They will also be expected to attend seminars and workshops, present their work at least once during the fellowship, and contribute to other IRES activities.
Applicants must have received a Ph.D. in Economics, Sociology, Political Science, or a related discipline between August 1, 2023, and August 1, 2027.
