The Department of Chemistry at Oklahoma State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Organic Chemistry in the Pitre Lab. The position is for one year with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon performance and the availability of funding. The successful applicant will lead an independent project focusing on nucleophilic cobalt catalysis, develop new methodologies to engage non-traditional radical precursors, and perform computational studies to help elucidate reaction mechanisms. The Postdoctoral Fellow will participate in weekly group meetings and provide updates on research progress, write scientific manuscripts for peer reviewed journals, disseminate research at national conferences (oral/poster presentations) and assist the PI in writing grant proposals. This position is contingent upon availability of funding.
Other responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, assisting the PI in providing experimental and technical supervision of one or more graduate students, mentoring and training new graduate students on experimental methods, and mentoring and training undergraduate students conducting research projects. Lab management responsibilities will include routine operations such as maintenance, safety training, chemical inventory, and aiding the PI in managing and purchasing lab supplies and chemicals.
Minimum qualifications are a PhD in Chemistry and familiarity with characterization techniques such as NMR, IR, MS, and UV-Vis. A record of scientific output, including peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations, and strong writing and communications skills are also required.
Preferred qualifications are a PhD Organic Chemistry with previous experience in organic synthesis and methodology development as well as photochemistry and developing cobalt catalyzed transformations.
