IRB Barcelona is seeking a talented and motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Biomedical Genomics Lab (BBGLab) led by Dr. Núria López-Bigas at IRB Barcelona.
We are looking for a postdoctoral bioinformatician with deep experience in handling and analyzing biological data (ideally different types) to derive robust results. We are interested in a person who is excited to explore the development of AI agentic systems to aid answering biological questions at scale. Specifically, as part of a state-of-the-art international project, they will participate in the co-development of an agentic system to facilitate human-AI scientific collaboration aimed at uncovering the molecular mechanisms underlying tumorigenesis across different types of genes and tissues. A plus for the candidate would be to have previous experience in using LLMs programmatically, for example, as part of RAG or agentic systems.
The candidate will participate and perform the activities, tasks, and reports within the framework of the project AURORA.
This position is financed by the project “AI-Driven Systematic Discovery of Tumorigenic Mechanisms of Tumor Promoter Mutations” financed by Cancer Research UK, with file number CGCAI2F-Jul26/100010.
To be a part a part of something meaningful: We are a biomedical research centre that tirelessly works to achieve a society free of diseases. Our mission is to carry out research of excellence to cure cancer and other diseases linked to ageing.
Good Working conditions: Permanent contract linked to the scientific and technical activities of the project “AI-Driven Systematic Discovery of Tumorigenic Mechanisms of Tumor Promoter Mutations”. Employed in compliance with Spanish legislation and regulations under a full-time contract. Employees receive the benefits of the Spanish Social Security system covering sickness, maternity/paternity leave and injuries at work.
Competitive salary: commensurate with experience and qualifications.
International Environment: Nearly 90 Postdoctoral researchers (more than a half non-Spanish nationals) are currently working at IRB Barcelona.
Multidisciplinary Research: Research of excellence at the unique interface between biology, chemistry, and structural and computational biology.
Training and Career: Postdoctoral researchers joining IRB Barcelona gain access to the Institute’s advanced research training and career development opportunities, all within in a competitive international environment. Courses and workshops on themes of particular interest to postdocs are offered regularly by the Institute.

Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.
The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 27 laboratories and 9 core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions.
IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 500 members and 45 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA).

We are a biomedical research centre that works to achieve a society free of diseases.
Our research purpose is to address fundamental biological questions in order to decipher why diseases develop and find new ways to diagnose, prevent and treat them.
Our Institute holds more than 500 scientists and support staff from 41 nationalities. It is organised around three major research challenges: Cancer Science, Aging and Metabolism, and Mechanisms of Disease.
The Institute was created by the Catalan government in 2005 and is located at the Barcelona Science Park (PCB). IRB Barcelona is a CERCA center, a member of BIST and is the first biomedical research center to be awarded four consecutive times with the "Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence" by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.
IRB Barcelona's ultimate objective is to translate research results to patients. To this purpose, it has already established six active spin-off companies: Accure Therapeutics, Inbiomotion, Nostrum Biodiscovery, Ona Therapeutics, Gate2Brain, and Nuage Therapeutics.
