The C.N. Yang Institute for Theoretical Physics (YITP) at Stony Brook University anticipates filling one or more postdoctoral research appointments in theoretical physics, with an approximate start date of September 1, 2027. Appointments are for two years, renewable for a third year, subject to the availability of funds.Research directions include (but not limited to) topological phases of matter and their realizations on quantum devices, quantum error correction, fault-tolerant quantum computation, non-equilibrium quantum dynamics, and generalized symmetries.

Postdoctoral AssociateRequired Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)

Completion of all requirements for a doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in theoretical physics or a closely related field, with a record of independent research. Preferred Qualifications:

Research experience in one or more of the following subfields. Research directions include (but not limited to) topological phases of matter and their realizations on quantum devices, quantum error correction, fault-tolerant quantum computation, non-equilibrium quantum dynamics, and generalized symmetries.Brief Description of Duties:

The Postdoctoral Associate will conduct research in theoretical physics. The researcher may collaborate with senior and junior members of the C.N. Yang Institute for Theoretical Physics, as well as members of other research institutes, and may travel for research purposes. The Institute has a tradition of collaboration with the Departments of Physics and Astronomy and of Mathematics and the Simons Center for Geometry and Physics at Stony Brook and with Brookhaven National Laboratory.● Conduct research in the field of the Postdoctoral Associate's choice in topological phases of matter and their realizations on quantum devices, quantum error correction, fault-tolerant quantum computation, non-equilibrium quantum dynamics, and generalized symmetries.● Collaborate with senior members of the YITP working in the same field as well as in other educational institutes.● Present seminars based on the Postdoctoral Associate's work during the academic year. Occasional travel to present research results or collaborate on institute-sponsored research.● Other duties as needed Sr. Postdoctoral AssociateRequired Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
