Conduct independent research activities under the guidance of a faculty mentor in preparation for a full time academic or research career.

Minimum Requirements:

  • The Postdoctoral Appointee holds a PhD or equivalent doctorate (e.g. ScD, MD, DVM). Candidates with non-US degrees may be required to provide proof of degree equivalency.
  • A candidate may also be appointed if degree requirements are completed but not formally conferred, with documentation of the conferral date. If not conferred by that date, the appointment may be terminated.
  • For international candidates, required degrees must typically be conferred before visa sponsorship can be issued.
  • The appointment is limited in term, involves substantially full-time research or scholarship, may include teaching responsibilities, and is preparatory for a full time academic or research career.
  • The Postdoctoral Appointee works under a mentor or department at Duke University and is expected to publish research results during the appointment.
