Duke University is seeking Post-Doctoral Fellow (PDF) to conduct independent research under Dr. Tonia Poteat focused on HIV and LGBTQ+ health. You will lead a mixed methods project on HIV and aging, working with both data and community partners.

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD in Public Health or Nursing
  • Completion of human subjects research certificate
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative data management and analysis
  • High personal motivation, self-management, and detail-orientation
  • Ability to take responsibility in meeting deadlines and making progress
  • Interest in HIV and the health of gender and sexual minorities
  • Experience with qualitative data management and analysis
  • Experience working in STATA, SAS, or R for quantitative data management
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the RISE Lab research team
  • Respect for community participation and input
  • Flexibility in responding to research challenges as they arise
  • Comfort with sensitive topics such as sexual health

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience working with LGBTQ+ populations and people with HIV

Other Requirements:

  • Full-time, onsite (40 hours/week)

Be Bold.

  • With mentor support, complete an independent, community engaged, mixed methods research project related to HIV and aging using existing and newly collected data
  • Work closely with a community advisory board to guide study implementation
  • Code and analyze qualitative data using standard qualitative data management software
  • Transfer, code, manage, and analyze large quantitative data sets
  • Document steps taken in data management, coding, and analysis for each data set
  • Produce written, tabular, and visual materials for research reports and presentations.
  • Lead peer-reviewed manuscript writing
  • Attend bi-weekly project management meetings and provide updates on ongoing projects
  • Handle and protect confidential and sensitive data with integrity
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings with the mentor
