The Department of Internal Medicine I at the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein

The position is part of the scientific team of the AG Heyckendorf, focusing on chronic inflammatory lung diseases, specifically immunological pathways in pneumology. Our research is dedicated to understanding the immunological mechanisms driving chronic inflammatory lung diseases, including COPD and asthma.

Your role:

  • The candidate will work in the Institute of Clinical Molecular Biology (IKMB) at the Christian-Albrechts University (CAU) in Kiel and scientifically support and manage wetlab methods as well as sequencing projects, covering the entire life cycle of collaboration requests from initial counselling to data processing and delivery
  • This includes performing lung organoid experiments, the analysis of advanced and novel omics data, epigenetics such as single cell sequencing
  • In addition to the service component, we expect an interaction of the candidate with a wide range of demanding scientific projects to offer excellent opportunities for personal development in the wider field of bioinformatics and genome science

Your profile:

  • We are seeking a qualified candidate with a completed academic degree (Master or Diploma) and a PhD (or equivalent) in bioinformatics, molecular biology or related areas, with profound NGS skills
  • Experience in one of the following fields is required: transcriptomics/epigenomics and/or NGS protocol development, organoid methods, pneumological immunology
  • Knowledge on biological information processing or LIMS systems would be advantageous
  • Good programming skills in R and/or Python/Perl/C++ are required and experience with high-throughput compute environments is advantageous
  • We expect strong English writing and communication skills and the ability for teamwork
