This postbaccalaureate research opportunity in the Rankin Lab in the Cell Cycle & Cancer Biology Research Program is tailored for students seeking hands-on experience to strengthen their preparation for graduate or professional school in STEM or healthcare fields. Scholars will receive close mentorship, professional development, and opportunities to engage in the scientific community through:

  • Hands-on experience in experimental design, lab techniques, and data analysis
  • Individualized guidance from faculty mentors through daily interactions and weekly meetings
  • Additional mentoring from senior graduate students and postdoctoral scientists for graduate school and/or scientific careers
  • Opportunities to present research at local and national meetings and contribute to peer-reviewed publications

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Learning to use molecular genetics techniques, cell free extracts, live-cell imaging, and protein purification in research experiments
  • Conducting experiments with guidance from a senior scientist to explore chromosome dynamics
  • Maintenance of detailed digital records
  • Preparation and maintenance of laboratory stocks, including media, solutions, and reagents

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS degree in biological sciences, physics, chemistry, or related area
  • Strong communication skills and enthusiasm for working as part of a supportive, collaborative team
  • Eagerness to learn new techniques and the ability to work independently once trained
  • Willingness to work with live animals (frogs)

Work Hours
Typically, Monday through Friday from 8:30AM to 5:00PM.
