At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections, where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.
The Institute of Human Biology (IHB), embedded within Roche’s Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) Division, is a leading research institute focused on accelerating the development of transformative medicines. It specializes in developing novel and robust human model systems that functionally resemble human physiology and disease. By bridging the gap between academic discovery and industrial application, IHB facilitates the rapid translation of groundbreaking science into patient-focused solutions.
As a Post Doctorate Scientist in Intestinal Inflammation at the IHB, you will focus on deconstructing inflammatory bowel disease pathobiology using advanced human model systems.
The duration of the position is initially set for two years, with the possibility of extension. You will be based in Basel, Switzerland. In this position you will:
Drive a project to create high fidelity in vitro models of inflammatory bowel disease, by combining primary human samples, organoids, tissue-resident/infiltrating immune cells and microfabrication technology to recreate the cellular environment of the diseased intestine
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve the ability of in vitro models to 1) recapitulate inflammatory disease, 2) understand the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms, 3) identify strategies to mitigate these pathogenic pathways
Generate top quality results for high-impact publications
You are a scientist with a PhD in the field of immunology and a profound understanding of mucosal biology. Furthermore, you have great interpersonal and communication skills. Your experience and investigative attitude allow you to collaboratively design, perform, and interpret experiments, and build on experimental observations to drive the research project towards meaningful and impactful biological insight. Fundamental to this position is a proactive mindset and a willingness to learn, explore and master new techniques and technologies.
You have been actively engaged in scientific research continuously since your PhD and are ready to start this postdoctoral position no later than 4 years after your PhD.
Knowledge or experience in any of the following areas would be considered a significant asset:
Deep understanding of the properties and phenotypes of mucosal immune cells
Experience in handling, manipulating and phenotyping myeloid cells
Handling of large data, including the generation, analysis and interpretation of scRNA-seq, and spatial omics
Handling of human intestinal tissue samples, particularly inflammatory bowel disease samples
3D culture
Ready to drive the future of mucosal biology? Apply now to join our team in Basel!
The start date of this position is 1st September 2026. The application needs to include a CV with a publication list, as well as a cover letter detailing your motivation for applying.
