Post-doctorat - HED models development into the ESTHER code and experimental applications - H/F

Sujet de stage

ESTHER is a 1D Lagrangian code for radiation-matter interaction that studies the evolution of materials transitioning from the solid phase to the plasma phase under the effect of an intense radiation pulse (laser, X-rays, electrons, ions, etc.). It accounts for the hydrodynamic evolution of fluid or solid materials (including mechanical effects), energy deposition of different types, thermal conduction, radiative transfer, and many other phenomena, for one-dimensional plane, axial and spherical geometries.

We aimed to developed new models to extend the ESTHER capabilities to compare with chalenging HED experiments. For example, a mixing model development for EOS, transport properties and opacities will be added, and compare with experiments with laser interaction on gaz jet or burried layer, or experiments with a high pulse power device. Another study intends to develop non-thermal electrons distribution which is of trendemous importance for UHI experiments.

Description de l'offre

We have an opening position for a Postdoctoral Research Staff Member in the field of plasma physics. You will be integrated in a team of physicists conducting experiment on various installations (laser fs or ns, XFEL, synchrotrons, high pulse power), and developing numerical simulations and analysis tools. In order to develop new models into ESTHER, the candidate will be interacting with experienced scientist in Equation Of State calculations or Particles In-Cell development.

What is expected:

  • Developing new models, such as mixing model, or non-thermal electrons distribution.
  • Designing and conductiong new experiments in order to validate the models.
  • Interpreting measurements and performing numerical simulations.
  • Comparing experimental data and numerical results to provide new interpretations and advanced physics understanding.
  • Working as a team member among experimental and theoretical physicists.
  • Publishing/presenting your research results in peer reviewed scientific journals and international conferences.
  • PhD in plasma physics or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic plasma physics.
  • Experience in developing analytical models and software development.
  • Documented publication record in peer reviewed literature and experience presenting research results to a large audience.
  • Experience in carrying out independent research.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to work in a multidisciplinary team environment, author technical and scientific reports and publications, and deliver scientific presentations.
  • Experience in working independently and in a team environment to achieve program goals in a timely fashion.

About CEA

The CEA is the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission ("Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives"). It is a public body established in October 1945 by General de Gaulle. A leader in research, development and innovation, the CEA mission statement has two main objectives: To become the leading technological research organization in Europe and to ensure that the nuclear deterrent remains effective in the future.

The CEA is active in four main areas: low-carbon energies, defense and security, information technologies and health technologies. In each of these fields, the CEA maintains a cross-disciplinary culture of engineers and researchers, building on the synergies between fundamental and technological research.

The civilian programs of the CEA received 49% of their funding from the French government, and 30% from external sources (partner companies and the European Union).

The CEA had a budget of 4,3 billion euros.

The CEA is based in ten research centers in France, each specializing in specific fields. The laboratories are located in the Paris region, the Rhône-Alpes, the Rhône valley, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, Aquitaine, Central France and Burgundy. The CEA benefits from the strong regional identities of these laboratories and the partnerships forged with other research centers, local authorities and universities.
